A medical oxygen sensor sends light wavelengths through the blood in the finger. The light beams are absorbed in oxygenated arterial blood; by measuring the changes in light absorption the proportion of oxygen (O2) in the body can be determined. An oximeter is a medical device used to measure SpO2 oxygen saturation in blood.
