Q. Is handloom machine still in trend?
Answer
The rise of power looms, which produced more yarn at a lower cost, than the handloom yarn was the main reason for the decline of the handloom industry. However, growing focus on environment and sustainable practices have allowed for a rejuvenation of the handloom industries in India. Of late, the handloom products are back in trend, and it is considered more fashionable to be sporting handloom goods such as Khadi clothes, traditional weaved table cloth, Assamese ‘gomcha’ etc.
