Methionine combines with ATP to form S-Adenosyl Methionine. S- Adenosyl Methionine also known as SAMe is a physiological methyl donor involved in enzymatic transmethylation reactions that is present in all living organisms. After losing methyl group SAMe is converted into SAH (S-Adenosyl Homocysteine) which looses adenosine to form homocysteine. This homocysteine is converted by enzymes like methionine synthase to form methionine thus completing the cycle.
