A Fire Sprinkler System is an active fire protection measure, consisting of a water supply, providing adequate pressure and flow rate to a water distribution piping system, onto which fire sprinklers are connected. In a Hydrant system, the Pipelines are kept pressurized with water. Whenever anyone opens a hydrant valve, the pressure in the pipeline reduces drastically and jockey pump set which normally keeps the total system pressurized is unable to cope with the system demand, resulting in further fall in pressure. This fall in pressure is sensed by a pressure switch which automatically starts the main fire pump set. If designed correctly, the system will extinguish the fire rapidly enabling operations to be re-started following removal of the fire source.
